HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

High blood pressure is often a contributing factor in the development of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for men in the United States. High blood pressure may result from genetics, lifestyle behaviors, and other medical conditions.
If left untreated, it can take a toll on many areas of health and may eventually result in a life threatening event like a heart attack or stroke.High blood pressure is categorized as either Primary Hypertension, high blood pressure having no known cause, or Secondary Hypertension, high blood pressure caused by another medical condition like obstructive sleep apnea, kidney problems, thyroid issues, adrenal gland tumors, congenital conditions, and certain medications.
Based on your symptoms and medical history, the medical providers at Med X Men's Clinic Men’s Health will determine the treatment that is most appropriate for you, which may include medication management and guidance on lifestyle changes.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS Often people may be fully unaware that they are developing high blood pressure and this may be discovered in the process of taking an individual’s vitals. At Med X Men’s Health, we check patient blood pressure at every visit, so this key health statistic never goes unmonitored.
Diagnostic Categories of High Blood Pressure
Normal Blood Pressure: Below 120/80
Elevated Blood Pressure: Systolic 120-129/ Diastolic below 80
Stage I Hypertension: Systolic 130-139/ Diastolic 80-89
Stage II Hypertension: Systolic >140/ Diastolic 90+

TREATMENT

At EveresT Men’s Health if we discover that a patient has high blood pressure, we will evaluate the severity and develop a personal treatment plan that may include medication management to establish blood pressure control. There are different types of blood pressure medications with different mechanisms of action. The medical providers at Med X Men's Clinic will review your medical history and projected cardiovascular risks to determine the best course of treatment and medication.
Many cases of mild to moderate high blood pressure can often be improved through focused lifestyle improvements and dietary changes.
Med X Men's Clinic blood pressure treatment plans will often include guidance on improving lifestyle behavior patterns with a focus on exercise and fitness in addition to medication.
If you have relatives with a history of cardiovascular disease or significant cardiac events, the medical providers at Med X Men’s Health may encourage you to seek out additional health screening tests to ensure that we are doing our part to support and protect your cardiovascular health.

Referrals for Female Partners with Sexual Dysfunction
Just like sexual issues in men, sexual dysfunction in women can be caused by medical, psychological and relational issues. If you have a female partner experiencing sexual dysfunction, we can refer her to the experts at the Center for Women’s Integrated Health.
Specialists there can help women cope with their male partner’s loss of sexual function.
They also can help women who are no longer interested in or able to have sex.
If you have a female partner with sexual health concerns related to cancer symptoms or treatment, we can refer you to Med X Men's Clinic Medicine’s Program in Integrative Sexual Medicine (PRISM) for Women and Girls with Cancer.
It is the first multidisciplinary, research-driven program in Illinois — and one of only a few nationwide — dedicated to treating sexual health problems in female cancer patients and survivors.
Internationally recognized experts at Med X Men's Clinic Medicine have also built a virtual platform for women with other common health conditions to recover their sexual function.

OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of sleep apnea, and it can have a significant impact on your overall energy during the day.
Disrupted sleep due to sleep apnea can contribute to the development of chronic diseases, like high blood pressure, type II diabetes, and weight gain. .
WHAT ARE COMMON SYMPTOMS OF OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA?
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Loud snoring
  • Observed episodes of arrested breathing
  • Abrupt awakenings with gasping or choking
  • Awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat
  • Morning headache
  • Difficulty concentrating during the day
  • Mood changes, such as depression or irritability
  • High blood pressure
  • Nighttime sweating
  • Decreased libido
At Med X Men’s Clinic, our team of medical providers can assess the possibility that you may have undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea. Oftentimes men will seek us out for our expertise with testosterone replacement when they notice significant declines in energy.
Before addressing the symptoms, it is important to determine the underlying cause of your low energy levels. If undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea is impacting restful sleep, treatment of OSA may be the solution. Chronic sleep disruption can result in deficient production of testosterone and sleep correction may result in normalization of testosterone production.
If there is strong clinical suspicion that you may have obstructive sleep apnea, we can assist with providing you with a home sleep test (HST). Historically, diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea required an overnight stay at a sleep center, which many find to be an uncomfortable experience. Technological advancements in HST devices affords the opportunity to complete a sleep test in the comfort of your own home.
The device can be configured for you and provided to you to take home to complete an overnight sleep test. Upon returning the device, the data will be uploaded and the sleep study reviewed and interpreted by a Board Certified Sleep Specialist. If it is determined that you have obstructive sleep apnea, the team at EveresT Men’s Health can direct you to a medical supply company where they can configure the proper settings for a device to treat OSA based on your sleep test results.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

The most common treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the nightly use of a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine which provides positive air pressure to maintain an open airway.
Men who use a CPAP machine typically notice significant improvement in the signs and symptoms of OSA, including increased energy during the day. Getting proper restful sleep helps men to support their global health by preventing many of the long term medical risks of chronic sleep disruption.
Additionally, at Med X Men’s Clinic we take every opportunity to encourage healthy lifestyle changes which will further complement treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. OSA is often improved by losing weight, so we often recommend increased exercise and nutritional guidance to further support this sleep therapy treatment.
For your convenience, if you suspect that you might have obstructive sleep apnea, we offer a Home Sleep Test (HST) whereby you can complete a sleep study in the comfort of your home and it will be interpreted by a Board Certified Sleep Specialist to determine if you need a device or other treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
If you’re ready to diagnose and start treating your obstructive sleep apnea, schedule an appointment with Med X Men’s Health today!
